Choose where to apply the patch.
You can place the patch on your buttocks, upper outer arm, lower abdomen or upper body.
Don’t put it on your breasts or in a place where it will be rubbed, such as under a bra strap.
Can you put the patch on your thigh?
Many women start using the patch on the first day of their period. Use the patch 3 out of 4 weeks. Put on a new patch every week on the same day of the week. The 4th week, don’t wear a patch.
Can I get pregnant on the patch?
Birth control patch effectiveness
If you use it perfectly, the patch is 99% effective. But people aren’t perfect, so in reality, the patch is about 91% effective. So 9 out of 100 patch users get pregnant each year. But there’s a very small chance you’ll get pregnant, even if you use the patch perfectly.
Is the patch better than the pill?
Because the patch contains a higher dose of hormones than the pill, the side effects may be more intense than with the pill.
When should I start the patch?
Apply your first patch during the first 24 hours of your menstrual period. Apply your first patch on the first Sunday after your menstrual period begins. Use a non-hormonal contraceptive method of birth control, such as a condom and spermicide or diaphragm and spermicide, for the first 7 days of your first cycle only.
